Colon Cancer Screening

Colorectal cancer early detection

In virtual colonoscopy, the colon cancer testing for endoscope done without, without a hose while investigation is conducted into the intestine of that. Polyps, the precursors of colorectal cancer are using MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) detected early.

Many patients fear a traditional colonoscopy, because an endoscope is inserted into the intestine.

The virtual colonoscopy is a modern high-tech process, which depicts the interior of the intestine, without an endoscope. The nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans the intestinal walls from outside and thus acquires images of the intestine similar to the classical endoscopy. The evaluation of the intestine after which they are inside the monitor on which the doctor examines the bowel for polyps, tumors but also diverticula.
In addition, the adjacent organs of the abdomen / pelvis area are checked for changes.

For virtual colonoscopy, no sedatives are given, as the investigation proceeds without pain. For a free and therefore good to be assessed view of the intestinal walls are possible, must be in the virtual colonoscopy as well as in a conventional reflection of the intestine clean, ie removed. However, sufficient for our special laxatives only a day to dissipate.
Shortly before the test about 3 liters of water in the intestines, so that the bowel develops and the intestinal loops are evaluated.

The patient is given after a CD containing the digital images.

General Information

In Germany, approximately 60,000 people diagnosed each year with colon cancer. 30 000 die from it. Because colorectal cancer usually develops very slowly (about 5 - 10 years) and is also early stage it responds well to treatment, colorectal cancer screening is becoming increasingly important.

Estimates that only takes about a third of women and even a sixth of men over 45 years, the conventional colonoscopy to complete.

In about 90% of cases, colorectal cancer develops from small nodular protrusion of intestinal mucosa, called polyps. These are initially harmless, but can develop after a few years to malignant cancer cells.

One diagnosed cancer in the early stages, so these small tumors confined to the polyp or the geographical area and can thus be quite easily removed and thus treated. Only after some time does the cancer spread to the bowel wall, lymph nodes and other organ systems. The discovery and removal of polyps can thus be more than 80% prevent the formation of colon cancer if there is an adequate and regular colorectal cancer screening.

The investigation of the bowel can be done with a virtual colonoscopy, which is carried out without the insertion of an endoscope, and thus a sophisticated alternative to the often unpleasant, conventional colonoscopy is with endoscope.
