Am I at risk?

Ignoring the risks can increase the likelihood of advanced cardiovascular disease and life-threatening events.

People tend to concern themselves with the subject of early detection & prevention when a family member or a friend is suddenly struck by a life-threatening illness. All of us are subject to certain risk factors that become more significant as we age. Special medical examinations can be carried out to determine the degree to which we are at risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke. These examinations give us an opportunity to respond appropriately at a sufficiently early stage.

The Risks of a Modern Lifestyle

Various aspects of a modern lifestyle such as stress, a lack of exercise, a poor diet, smoking and drinking can increase our risk of getting a disease. The problem with heart attacks and strokes is that they often occur suddenly and without any forewarning. And even if there are signs of an increased risk, such as high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels, many people refuse to take these seriously.

Minimizing the Risk

Our early detection & prevention program, which was specially designed to help individuals avoid heart attacks and strokes, includes an examination of the cardiovascular system, extensive blood testing and customized medical consultation.

Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention Program

Detection of early-stage diseases:

      • Comprehensive consultation including a survey of the patient’s medical history, current medication, and personal risk profile
      • Color Doppler echocardiography (special ultrasound examination of the heart)
      • Carotid duplex sonography
      • Ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs, abdominal arteries and the large cardiac veins
      • General physical examination
      • Lung function test
      • Resting ECG
      • Stress ECG (including pulse oximetry)
      • Ankle brachial index (ABI) test to detect peripheral arterial disease
      • Extensive blood testing and determination of blood-related risk factors for arteriosclerosis

          Special Blood Testing

A comprehensive medical checkup includes examinations designed to detect cancer and examinations designed to evaluate the cardiovascular system. This why we also offer an early detection & prevention program to assess a person’s risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke.

Blood testing is an integral part of any heart attack and stroke prevention program. The blood testing we carry out goes well beyond a standard blood count so as to permit a careful analysis of all important metabolic and organ function parameters. If a given blood parameter turns out to be abnormal (e.g. the blood lipid or cholesterol level), we can support the patient with customized medical consultation and any necessary treatment.

          Heart Attack Prevention

In the context of carefully examining your heart, we carry out a resting ECG test and a stress ECG test (cardiac stress test). A test known as color Doppler echocardiography plays a very important role when it comes to the early detection of cardiovascular disease. This procedure is a special ultrasound examination of the heart that enables your doctor to precisely determine the size, structure and functional performance of your heart ventricles and valves.

During the final part of our early detection & prevention program, we sit down together with you to discuss the results of the various clinical examinations and to make recommendations, if appropriate, concerning lifestyle changes or certain types of medication.
